3D object in Photoshop cs3 extended
posted by duchesssa, Mar 22, 2008 12:23 PM — 43 commentsThe first thing is download a 3d object from the various site that offer free download. At this address there are a lot. You must download .3ds file.
You open your 3d object in photoshop and you can see that the texture is in a separate layer

Now you can modify the position or light, in layer/3d layer/transform

Clicking on texture layer, the file open in a new window where you can change it .

Add every layers as you like (for example with a logo texture),

and SAVE the texure file: Cs3 fill the 3d objetc!

Now turn on your creativity and enjoy yourself !!!!!!!!

Everybody who wants try this tutorial, can download the file can.3ds here

Dear carlos24 you are right. I think is impossible that everybody likes what I do, but when I thought to write this tutorial I was so happy cause I enjoy myself very much playing with 3d in photoshop and I believed that it was good for the SXC friends. Reading "wrong" I asked why? But ascombsb no answer me.....

wow i did not know that cs3 could even open 3ds files..i still only have CS2... will cs3 also open DXF or WAV - OBJ files as well? C4D ? posibly
being i do modeling it would be my steps to just texture it in C4D or Maya.
but of course i would be making a better can as well.. lol.. and then just rendering it out into a PNG .. ETC.. to then do with as i wish..
but i do find this very interesting. and nice tutorial duchesssa,

Click on "coke" layer and a little new window is opened (with a men with glasses). You must change the face of men with you want and save it. In this way the can texture is changed!
23. posted by xeroxgfx, May 23, 2008 9:12 AM
if i opened yours. i dont even see the man on the can. so i dont know how that is possible ?
24. posted by duchesssa, May 24, 2008 10:33 AM

ciao bella!
i can open the file, but it seems to be that the can is smaller than " a shadow"
or the black backgroud...
i can turn it and stuff but i can´t see the hole can, just a part of it, every file (.3ds) have the same issue.
can u help me please?
grazie mille

You must make a DOUBLE CLICK in the "coke" layer to open the little window and edit it.
(I passed about an hour trying to edit with single click...)
You will need EXTENDED version, the Standard can't open .3DS files.

"Is there a way to add textures if the model doesn't already have them?"
I had basically the same question. I played around with it a bit, and it's neat. Is there a way though to add texture layers ?
There is layer/3d layers/replace textures
but I cant find any way to get a texture layer in there on files that don't seem to have textures included .. which is 3 out of 4 that I found and tried.

For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.
Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.
Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
