Decay and Beaty

Last weekend in one of Shanghai's soon to be gone old quarters I tried to capture the decay of housings which will make room for intersections, skyscrapers and what not. The tearing down of buildings reveals a stunning obscenity. Kitchens, bathrooms and sleeping quarters, deprived of their walls, lie open to public views. All privacy gone, is the picture somewhat vulgar. There is a happiness talisman on one door, wallpapers are half stripped. It is like rape in open daylight. We walk by and look at vulgar exhibits. There are still many of the inhabitants around, most prefer to leave at the very last day.

They are quiet, only workers make noise while dismantling steelworks in order to sell the stuff. Anything valuable is carried away, every window frame and cannister, nothing is left behind. Its an atmosphere of sadness in its own beauty.

For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.

Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.

Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
