Bela Kolarova

The FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, 9.9.2008) carried a short portrait on Czech photographer Bela Kolarova (born 1923) and her search for alternative motives. She slected everyday, unobtrusive items and transformed them into photoart. Her black and white experiments had names like "artificial negative" or "embroidered". The material she collected stretches from safety pins, scissors, hair, needles, the items of the household cosmos. In the 60s Kolarova engaged in "Lightpaintings", Lichtmalereien. The artist had a retrospective during the last documenta in Kassel. This summer there was an exhibition in Prag, Museum Kampa which showed her many talents. "That he (her husband Jiri Kolar) became worldrenowned, while she spent her life in his shadow, is the tristesse of the female course of life", writes Noemi Smolik,

For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.

Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.

Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
