stathsara: You can use the selection tools (on the left side of Photoshop workplace). These guarantee the clear result. Just try it.
My best council with the photoshop: learn to combine its devices.
I do not like when most people wants to hear EVERY small little step to make a niece effect, (or- they want the source file directly).

hello beaudenoir! its really hard to read, even in full view. compare the text in your tutorial with the text in the artist´s comments box for example. jpg is not a good file format for things like that, try to save it as a png and compare the results. jpg is good for fotos, but in graphics like in your tutorial you are getting noise around the text and so on, the colors are bleeding.
greetings

Thanks for the cool tutorial!
somebody needs some efforts to
make a glossy effect. that's the point
of this tutorial. you can use the pen tool to select and erase an unnecessary part after making a big white spot, and also use a soft eraser.

For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.
Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.
Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
