Grand Opening

posted by claymor, Sep 18, 2006 6:01 AM — 4 comments

They tell me this room is called blog. At first glance I don't much like that word, blog. It sounds too much like a cross between "blah" and "fog". Nothing about that combinations attracts me and I certainly do NOT like the idea of being refered to as a "blogger". THAT sounds like it connotes a person of color who works in the logging industry.

Truth be told the few times I have been asked to read someone's blog I have come away from the experience feeling as though I've been subjected to a bit of blah and fog. Most folks opinions are just not unique enough nor are their thoughts inspiring enough to make the read worth the time it takes to navigate to it on the web.

I am not claiming that mine are any better...which is perhaps why I have never before entered this room called blog even though several such rooms have been granted me for free.

Who will ever read what I write on the walls of this empty room I wonder? Who will ever know this room exists if I do not tell them of its existence? And if no one reads the words do they hold any value? Is it enough that they hold some significance in a specific moment in time because I took the time to type them while I waited for pictures to download from my camera to my computer?

But then these questions are not unique...
If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it...

Perhaps I should click that button down there...Recommend for front page Surely that would be folly at best and arrogance at worst...perhaps though worth the brief social experiment.

Am I merely spilling my thoughts and words into the void here in some oddly technological form of literary self pleasure? Or will someone examine these thoughts...and if they do what will they do with them? Will they respond? Would they risk entering into some sort of...I hate to say it... dia-blog ? Or are mindless rants the best one might expect in reply?

Here in this room called blog in the worlds most perfectly impersonal building called internet is it even possible to have honest dialogue? And if not...then what of honest relationship which is, after all, what we all crave. What of that?

Perhaps in this room called blog I will covenant to begin with a question and see who responds. This room is, after all, hosted within a community which does seem to indicate SOME level of relationship. And when the first question has run its course I will try another and another until such time as there is no one there to hear the sound of them being typed, or asked.

This then is the question...
Aside from basic physical attraction or deeply shared philosophy what is it that draws you, the reader, to be willing to risk enetering into relationship with another person?

Do not read too much into that word "relationship". It is meant in the broadest possible context.

The walls are no longer blank. In one small corner there is a question. Who will see it I wonder and who will risk answering.

ugh. why did you tick the box?

vacuous self-promotion at best and smug self-indulgence at worst.

Interesting but a bit tiresome at making the point.

#1 What is a blog if not one or the other of those two? A bulletin board in disguise?

#2 Well, you only got half the point so..half a point for you!!

For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.

Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.

Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
