Blood and guts

...really? Parts of the body make a great texture sometimes; besides, I would like to make a series of gore graphics for one of my projects. I started a survey on the internet, searching for dead animals photos and results really shocked me. It's actually MUCH EASIER to find a dead HUMAN body shots with visibile entrails than clean animal photos! Surfing through the graphic abyss of the Internet, I sometimes feel really strange... what's wrong with you people?! I'm not going to use a dead human (somebodys brother, sister, mother etc. !) photography and you can say that "art should have no borders" or something - for me, it has. I used death in my art once in my life - it was the sound made by a dying, beheaded soldier. And I'm still sick when I think about it. Am I old-fashioned?

Hmmm... there are some horrible 'suicide' photos on SXC too, which I found by doing a seemingly innocuous search for 'bathroom'.

It's hard to comment on your pic without seeing it, but while the SXC rules claim to forbid 'adult / violent content' (I would have thought that should include simulated suicides) there's nothing specific about dead animals... it's all dodgy ground though, as different people and cultures have different sensibilities I guess. My own view is that I'd rather not be browsing SXC and come across something that I judge gory or unpleasant - but others may well have opposing ideas! :)

I don't see why we can't have a special category for stuff that might be offensive to some... At iStockPhoto you can kick in a filter of sorts when you're browsing/searching. But that might involve some pretty complicated programming, I dunno...

I like FAKED darkside type pix (like the "suicide" pix referred to above) but I do have a bit of a problem with the real thing. Special effects are an art in themselves; maybe that's the criteria they're using at the moment...

For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.

Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.

Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
