Quick bits of photography news

Andy Summers, guitarist with popular rock band "The Police," also is an accomplished photographer. The Cheap Thrills-Boston blog, which covers arts and cultural events in Boston MA, reports an opening reception for Summers' lastest photo exhibit will be held Thursday (July 26, 2007) night at a gallery in the city's Back Bay neighborhood. The reception is free; the photos are Summers' backstage glimpses of the band's life between 1980 and 1983. Summers apparently has had several photography exhibits around the globe featuring varied subjects.

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale (FL) said yesterday (July 24, 2007) in a press release that it would begin offering a bachelor of science degree in photography in October. The school has offered both a photography associate's degree and a one-year photography diploma program for several years.

Dive Magazine in the United Kingdom reported today (July 25, 2007) that the British Society of Underwater Photographers is holding an underwater photo contest. It's free to enter, entries from all nations are accepted, entries must be submitted online, and the entry deadline is Aug. 14. "Submitted images must have been taken in an open water environment," the magazine says. For more information, visit the contest webpage.

For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.

Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.

Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
