Automate your life with Actions
posted by Sarej, Sep 10, 2007 9:47 AM — 19 commentsAbout actions:
An action is a series of tasks that you play back on a single file or a batch of files: menu commands, palette options, tool actions, and so on. For example, you can create an action that changes the size of an image, applies a filter to the image for a particular effect, and then saves the file in the desired format.
Where to look for the Actions ?
The fastest way is to use shortcut: Alt+F9

In short Actions palette overview.

Open photo
Open some photo to test an Actions on it.

Step 1
Create new set (4)

Step 2
Create new action (5)

Step 3
Begine recording (2)

Step 4
While you are recording do what you like with your phpto: change levels, curves, brightness, image size and save it.

Step 5
When you are done press stop playing/recording (1)

Step 6
Open new photo. you need to select your action and Play selection (3) on it. its working, cool right?

Important !!!
By default, actions are completed using the values specified when they were originally recorded. To enable a modal control for a command within an action, click the box to the left of the command name.
Toggle dialog on - enable a modal control

Modal control
If you want to change the settings for a command within an action, you can insert a modal control. A modal control pauses an action so that you can specify values in a dialog box or use a modal tool.
Toggle dialog off - disable the modal control.

How to save an Action?
Select a set. Choose Save Actions from the Actions palette menu. Type a name for the set, choose a location, and click Save. You can save the file anywhere. You can save only the entire contents of a set in the Actions palette, not individual actions.

For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.
Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.
Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
