Ultra High Speed Flash Trick

posted by tdenham, Oct 21, 2006 4:28 PM — 4 comments

Using this trick and an external flash, any camera that can be set to manual mode can take very high speed flash photos.

The flash (and I think most can) must be able to set the flash duration. My SB-600 can be set down to 64,000ths of a second. Many Vivitar flashes can do this too.

Selective Photoshop Sharpening

posted by tdenham, May 29, 2006 9:41 PM — 18 comments

Have you ever wanted to sharpen just parts of a photo in Photoshop and not the entire photo? For example, if you are sharpening a photo of a person's face it may be better sharpen the eyes and mouth, and avoid a common problem of oversharpening the hair or other parts that may look worse if sharpened. For the pupil part where you say "Draw circle and feather 1 px," the tutorial is not clear.

Do not use the Shape tool. Instead, use the Elliptical Marquee tool and draw a circle. Then in the upper menu, go to Select > Modify > Feather. Choose 1px.

Then you can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill with black.
